The Senior Internal Auditor is responsible for independently planning and delivering a diverse set of risk focused audits.  The types of audits will include Information Security and governance, IT general controls, FDICIA (SOX) testing, financial, business process evaluations, and regulatory compliance. This individual will also assist with and support Internal Audit Department (IAD) quality improvement activities.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Identify and evaluate business and technology risks, controls that mitigate risks, and related opportunities for internal control improvement.
  • Develop, update, and/or review detailed audit programs or evaluation templates tailored to each audit to accomplish the audit objectives.
  • Effectively manage all aspects audits assigned including planning, risk assessment, control identification, business unit coordination, fieldwork, data analysis, work paper documentation, reporting, and remediation validation completing required tasks on a timely basis.
  • Demonstrate and apply strong project management skills. Ensure accountability and high quality by directing daily progress of fieldwork, informing managers and clients of audit status and supervising staff performance when necessary.
  • Work as an individual contributor, as well as lead engagements with 1-2 auditors. In some instances, may act as subject matter expert on a key area or functions within First American bank.
  • Review audit workpapers and provide coaching and feedback on work prepared by Internal Auditors.
  • Assist in coordination with external auditors on FDICIA documentation and testing.  
  • Participate in departmental processes and initiatives, including employee-focused processes that promote resource development. Assist management in continuous improvement of the audit function through process development activities.
  • Contribute to team effort by willingly sharing knowledge, being open to new ideas, applying knowledge in daily work, and building strong partnerships for learning and knowledge sharing.
  • Pursue professional development opportunities to maintain and grow skills. Stay current with emerging trends in internal auditing practices, risk management, IT, and regulatory changes affecting financial institutions.
  • Conduct and complete additional assignments/projects as designated by management.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in finance, accounting, business, or other related areas preferred.
  • A professional designation, CPA, CIA, CFE, CISA CISM CISSP, CRMA preferred.
  • Experience in planning and executing audits and a comprehensive knowledge of auditing practices, accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and risk management principles and knowledge of bank operations within a large financial institution.
  • Experience identifying and assessing credit, operational, compliance, cyber, and reputational risks across a variety of business functions, evaluating the design of processes, and controls, and leading and performing large-scale and complex audits.
  • Experience auditing IT general and application controls is desired.
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision on audit assignments, determining when to act independently and when to refer situations to superiors.
  • Demonstrate leadership, coaching and project management skills.
  • Ability to deliver high quality results in diverse circumstances within a changing business environment.
  • Ability to negotiate and identify root cause of issues and resolve problems. Must be results and goal oriented, possess sound judgment and ability to apply logical/critical thought processes when developing business solutions.
  • Must be professional, comfortable speaking with external and internal contacts with a demonstrated ability to tailor the message appropriately to the audience and situation effectively. 
  • Demonstrated ability to convey thoughts and ideas effectively and succinctly via written formats, including emails, letters, and electronic platforms. Maintain professional standards relating to spelling and grammar. 
  • Maintain credibility through professional demeanor, appearance, and presence by modeling standards appropriate to our environment and industry.  
  • Maintain good working relationships with internal partners by exhibiting exemplary interpersonal skills, adopting a constructive, solutions-focused approach. 
  • Use sound professional judgment to balance the interests of the organization and customer, understanding and using available resources to mitigate risks. 
  • Occasional travel to other First American Bank locations, Bank functions, and training facilities may be required.
  • Typical schedule is Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional hours may be required depending upon business need.
  • Punctuality is required to maintain First American Bank’s customer service standards.
